New and enhanced features
Features added and enhanced in this release include:
Domo's new navigation makes organizing and managing pages easier than ever. Whether you have a few pages or hundreds of pages, you can find them with simpler operations. In addition, since the functions frequently used in Domo can be moved with a small number of clicks, it is possible to execute the work in a shorter time than before and see the result. See this demo video for more information.
In this release, all Domo customers will automatically transition to the new navigation, but you can switch to the old navigation layout in Admin Settings if you wish. However, the option to revert to the previous version in April will be removed and all customers will no longer be able to use the old navigation.
Here are the highlights of the most important improvements.
The Pages menu has been moved into the scrollable Dashboard list on the left side of the screen. This list is collapsible and provides more space when you want to focus on important dashboard content. If necessary, you can display the list in the collapsed state. In addition, the search function is available in the list, and you can quickly filter the list of pages by entering a character string.
Shortcuts to the most important functions of Domo are displayed at the top of the screen, so you can operate more quickly.
Three-level page structure
You can now create pages up to three levels deep, so you can add subpages one level below subpages. The increased number of hierarchy options allows you to publish the information you need more easily.
Registering a page as a “favorite” allows you to easily access important content. Select "Add to Favorites" from the page wrench menu to add the page as a "Favorites" page.
To access a page you have added as a favorite , click [Favorites] at the top of the page list and select the page to access.
For more information, see New Navigation Announcements .
Embed the story
Each card's individual iFrames can be delivered to partners and customers as stories using the integrated iFrames. The method is very simple. Simply paste the code embedded in the Story's Share dialog into your portal or application, and anyone can use the platform features, even from outside the company.
For more information, see Sharing Cards and Stories Outside Domo Using Domo Embedding (BETA) .
Embedding filters programmatically
Large-scale distribution of personal content in portals and software using programmatic filtering with Domo embed. Domo content can be shared without restriction on the number of viewing users. Shares are also possible for viewers who do not have a Domo account.
With programmatic filters, you can:
- Show only approved relevant content to viewers.
- Reduce the number of PDP policies to manage.
- Enables viewers who are not full Domo users to view embedded content.
- Reduce the risk of browsing users logging in to full instances.
Filters are defined in code based on your system's login credentials, not the Domo Data Permission policy. This ensures that only authorized subsets of data are displayed to viewing users, even if you have not selected Identity Provider Integration or Domo User Provisioning.
For more information, see Using Programmatic Filters with Domo Embedding (BETA) .
New AppStore interface / Public AppStore
In February, Domo launched the next generation Domo Appstore. The Appstore introduces a new collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to take every business process to the forefront and accelerate the use of BI at the cloud scale. Through collaboration between Domo and AWS, you can directly access and integrate any data subscribed with Domo from AWS Data Exchange. AWS Data Exchange is a new service that makes it easy and secure to search, subscribe, and use third-party data in the cloud.
Domo is also announcing enhancements to the Appstore that make it easier to find and build solutions that use data to drive your business. This new addition includes:
· New enterprise apps leverage data from different business systems to modernize common business functions such as finance and sales activities. Also update the workflow with the new writeback connector.
· Improved navigation makes it easier to find business-ready apps to support key processes such as sales commission, vendor contract management, or retail performance.
· A more robust SDK allows in-house developers and partners to build and distribute customized business-ready apps in days or weeks. Traditional app development typically took months, quarters, or years at most.
· Increase access to models of innovation feasible with Domo and Domo App through public portals .
All apps in the Domo Appstore leverage the power of Domo's business cloud to quickly and easily virtually connect to any data source, anywhere, and make data more valuable to teams and organizations will do.
For more information, see AppStore Layout .
Data impact analysis
Domo's data impact analysis tool is available in the Details view of the DataSet. Useful for understanding the impact of actions on a DataSet.
This tool includes the following features:
- Impact card . A new card on the Overview tab shows the number of DataSets, DataFlows, cards, and alerts that were directly or indirectly impacted by the DataSet change. The card shows each direct impact, along with the total number of impacts.
- Lineage view . This view shows the upstream and downstream impact of a DataSet change. Simply click the [Line] tab to check the lineage of the DataSet.
- Info panel . This panel includes the owner, the number of direct and indirect impacts on downstream elements, the entry and start time of the DataSet (for DataFlow and DataFusion), the update history, and the number of rows and columns (for DataSet). It shows.
- List panel . In this panel you can see all the individual DataSets, DataFlows, Cards and Alerts triggered by this DataSet.
For more information about using this feature, see View the Impact of Modifying a DataSet .
New chart type
We have added a number of new and exciting chart types to Analyzer. The added chart includes:
Sankey charts are ideal for displaying information about the flow of business activities. For example, it can be used to show the flow of money (budget, donations, etc.), the flow of energy from a source to a destination, or the flow of goods from place to place. For more information about Sankey Charts, see Sankey Charts-Beta .
When you use a multi-value gauge, a secondary value is displayed, along with a summary number, to represent the positive or negative level of change. You can use any of a variety of aggregation functions, such as sum, average, minimum or maximum, to aggregate the current value of a gauge. You can also show the level of change as a percentage or value. There are also a wide variety of other customization options available. For more information, see Multi-value gauge-beta .
SPC (Statistical Process Control) charts are line charts, also known as control charts, Shewhart charts, or control charts. Used to determine if a manufacturing or business process can be controlled. For Domo SPC charts, you can set rules based on SPC criteria by setting them in the Chart properties. Outliers that are out of the default rules are flagged as outliers in the chart. Domo's SPC chart allows you to set 8 types of rules. You can set one SPC rule or combine rules on one chart.
For more information, see SPC Chart-Beta .
The shape gauge uses any of the 45 types of images to indicate the current value. By using different images showing different ranges, you can tell the user if the current value is positive, neutral or negative. Available images include squares, circles, triangles, pentagons, and octagons, as well as upward and downward thumbs, airplanes taking off and landing. In addition, you can customize the color and add variations to the shape, and you can choose from a wider range of options. Up to 10 ranges can be used with the shape gauge.
For more information, see Geometry Gauge-Beta .
Megatables provide all of the same features as standard tables and heatmap tables, but with more features. With the mega table, you can:
- Stores up to 25,000 rows.
- Collapse, expand, sort, and scroll on the page.
- Stores HTML links and images.
- Apply a predefined or customized date format to specific columns. When using the short date format and long date format that are predefined options, the locale used for both is taken into account. For example, if the locale is Japan, whichever date format you select, the Japanese date format is automatically applied.
- Transposition of table data, ie, swapping of rows and columns, is convenient for increasing visibility when there are too many columns in a table.
- Preserve all formats when exporting Domo tables to Excel. In addition to cell, row, and column formats, page and card filters, pivot views retain that format. In the screenshot below, the top is the Domo table and the bottom is the same table exported to Excel. See Table Charts for more information.
Pivot tables offer more powerful options than Domo's standard tables. Pivot tables allow you to quickly and easily aggregate large amounts of data from DataSets and explore the data in different dimensions and ways. Domo has been using the pivot table function in the form of a Sumo card for a long time. However, Sumo cards are in a different format than other cards and could not use many of the features available with KPI cards. The addition of pivot tables to Domo's line of charts offers many features that were previously unavailable. For example, it has full integration with Analyzer, full mobile support, drill paths, alert integration, Beast Mode support, and much more. For more information about PivotTables, including creation steps and a list of all features, see PivotTables-Beta .
New quarter-over-year chart
Six new year-over-year charts are now available on Domo. This gives you more flexibility when reporting on your business. New chart types include Cumulative Total Axis, Multi-Value Gauge, Shape Gauge, Flex Table, Fill Gauge Graph, Progress Bar, and ANOVA.
New chart function
The following chart features have been added in this release:
New options for scatter plots
Increased flexibility when creating scatter plots. More options are available for customizing the way points in the chart are displayed. Also, the Data Label option and Tooltip field are now available. This allows you to set up a grid chart with descriptive data labels and hover text.
For more information, see Customizing a scatter chart .
Add chart to popular tab
You can now save more frequently used chart types on the Popular tab of the Chart Picker. You can quickly select a saved chart type without first opening the second Chart Picker.
New properties for trellis and date hierarchy
You can customize trellis charts and date hierarchies by setting various new Chart properties. These properties include turning trellises and date hierarchies on and off, setting divider colors, and setting word wrap.
For more information about these properties , see Properties Available for Many Charts .
Predict latest weights
A new Chart property is available when using forecasts over multiple time periods in a Recent Weighted Linear Regression chart. This method gives more weight to recent data. Use this option when recent data is more important than older data.
For more information, see Predicting the final value of a chart .
Change design of delete button used for column
The Analyzer user interface is more intuitive for first-time users. The "x" button, which allows you to remove columns from the chart, has replaced the standard drop-down button with "v". This drop-down button opens the Column Options dialog. A [Delete] button has been added to this dialog .
The Workbench UI can now be displayed in multiple languages. All languages supported by Domo (English, Japanese, French, Spanish, German, Simplified Chinese) are also available in Workbench. If you display Workbench in your native language, you will be able to operate it more easily and perform tasks using new functions more quickly. Set the UI language during installation or select it from [Settings] after installation.
In addition to UI localization, Workbench dates and numbers are now localized. In the new Workbench, dates and numbers are displayed in a format appropriate for the specified locale. When you set the locale on the Workbench machine and select the system language you want to use in Workbench, Workbench automatically synchronizes with both the Workbench and the data preview to display the date and numbers according to the region.
Creating a group schedule in Workbench
Create job dependencies and select jobs to group and run. If a data pipeline job fails, the execution of subsequent jobs can now be aborted. Or, if you need to wait for the source data system to finish the update, you can schedule the grouped jobs to run as soon as the source data is ready.
Detailed schedule settings in Workbench
Now you have more flexibility in creating job schedules as needed. You can set the exact time, select a specific day or month, and select different time intervals directly from Workbench.
Improved server migration in Workbench
Workbench jobs can be migrated seamlessly and smoothly using AES encryption. When moving a Workbench job to a new machine using AES encryption, the credentials are also transferred. This means you don't have to re-enter your credentials every time you switch machines. As a benefit, AES encryption is included in all the latest security features.
Workbench Query Builder
You can create queries in Workbench without knowing the data structure. When you create a query, Workbench loads table and column names from the database. Therefore, the accuracy of the query is guaranteed. Query Builder is available for all large databases (MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL).
You can now use Workbench to load a new DataSet using drag and drop. With DataSync, you can create a new DataSet in Domo. Simply add an Excel or CSV file to the DataSync folder and watch the DataSet automatically update as you make changes to the file. Free from the hassle of setup and updates. Download Domo Workbench and get started.
SQL DataFlow UI enhancements
The new SQL DataFlow UI makes creating, troubleshooting, and editing DataFlow much more efficient than before. Options such as Run here and Run preview do not require you to manually click through the conversion tiles in order to convert later steps. You can preview, save, and manage your settings for DataFlow anywhere in the editor.
For more information, see Creating SQL DataFlow .
Use Notes and Doc Cards in Publication Groups
Publication groups now support notes and Doc Cards. It provides a better context and a deeper understanding for anyone viewing the Story, whether or not they belong to your organization. A new "Cards" step in the " Publication Groups" tab allows access to all cards. This does not require the use of the DataSet feature on the card. You can also access notes and Doc Cards (as well as custom apps that do not use DataSet).
Note that this feature is not activated by default. If you want to include these card types in your publication group, you must configure and activate them separately in each publication group. Also note that Doc Cards in the Publication Group are "Read Only". That is, the content cannot be downloaded from the card.
For more information, see To set up a publication group .
New "add card" tile
The tiles that add cards to Domo have been refined to provide a simpler, less complex experience. The Start view now displays three frequently used card types: visualization (KPI card), Doc Card , or memo . If you select Visualize in this view, you will be prompted to upload existing data or connect to live data. Alternatively, the [start] in the view [view more] to select the Sumo table , questionnaire to display and, more frequently used low card type.
Undo and redo in Analyzer
The Undo and Redo buttons in Analyzer allow you to confidently explore and try new actions when creating cards. You can use Undo and Redo for all Analyzer actions, including applying filters and chart properties, changing dates, changing chart types, and more. You can also use Mac and Windows undo and redo keyboard shortcuts (Mac: Command + Z, Redo: Command + Shift + Z; Windows: Undo Ctrl + Z, Redo: Ctrl + Y).
See Analyzer Layout for more information.
By adding the Mobile Activity DataSet to DomoStats, you can measure the daily usage of the Domo Mobile App on your instances by all users. Improve decision making by gaining a better understanding of how the Domo platform is being used by mobile and desktop users. It also reveals what content is important in everyday decisions.
Add your favorite cards as a widget to your smartphone's home screen to quickly and simply browse the cards you've added for insights at a glance. The widget's view shows card visualization settings, titles, and summary numbers, and you can add any type of card, including custom apps. On iOS, up to five cards can be added to a widget. On Android, you can add multiple widgets and resize them as you like.
CSV attachment in schedule report
When scheduling a report on one card, you can choose to attach the data used on the card. This will create a CSV export of the data and store it as an attachment. Busy executives and business users can easily and quickly analyze data snapshots on the fly, using the tools of their choice. It also makes it easy to repeatedly share important data and communicate seamlessly with customers and colleagues.
Note that this feature is only available for scheduled reports on individual cards and not for dashboards. Also note that the export contains only the data used on the card, not the entire DataSet .
See Scheduling a Report for more information.
Disable card interaction
By disabling the interaction of cards in Stories, you can keep your users on a "guided path" in your Domo Stories. This option is located in the default card's Card Interaction Settings and, when selected, prevents actions from occurring when you click the card. Also, buttons and highlights disappear when you hover over the cursor. This allows you to focus on important content and use text and images freely as design elements in Stories.
In addition, you can use the Card Options Button option in the Display Settings menu . This menu appears when you click the Edit Content button on a card in the Edit Story view . If this option is turned off, the wrench menu will not appear when the mouse cursor is over the card. This prevents any actions, such as sharing, exporting, or opening the Details view.
For more information, see Creating Domo Stories .
If the date column stores the time in seconds, the chart data can now be displayed in minutes.
